Day trips from Malalaga

My husband and I will be arriving in Malaga from Barcelona for a 4 day stay before continuing on to Sevilla. While in Malaga, we've already decided on taking 2 day trips to Ronda and Granada. We'd like to add one other city, but are still undecided considering the short time frame...any suggestions?

Nerja can be a good option. You can take a bus from Malaga to Nerja Cuevo, see the caves, and take the same bus on to Nerja. Can get a return bus from Nerja to Malaga.

Be sure to leave some time for Malaga itself, as it is certainly worth a full day atleast.

Cordoba can be a 49 minute each way train journey.
Antequera a one hour each way bus journey.

Another vote for Malaga itself. This is a great city and you shouldn't miss it.

About Málaga, one of my favourite cities in the country after decades of frequent travels to Spain:

Antequera with the spectacular Torcal limestone rock formations is a good option. Just some 30-40 mins driving North of Málaga city. Known as "the heart of Andalucía" or "the crossroads of Andalucía". Almost right in the middle of the Sevilla, Córdoba, Granada, Málaga rectangle. Here you'll find dolmens (some 5000 years old burial chambers), Roman baths, a Moorish Castle, Gothic churches, Renaissance fountains and Baroque bell towers. Antequera was the first of the Granada emirate towns to fall to the Christians in 1410.

I love the terrace in the corner of the peaceful square in front of the Real Colegiata de Santa María la Mayor, the first partly Renaissance-style church in Spain (built 1514-1550). Up here it's totally peace and quiet. Next to the recently excavated Roman baths beneath and looking up on the 13th century Moorish alcazaba/fortress. Great views over unique landscapes (the spectacular Torcal limestone mountain etc.). http://www.wild-about-travel.com/201...ing-antequera/

And, as suggested above, Nerja with the spectacular caves is also a good option. Some 30 miles east of Málaga.

Extremely popular and local feel La Marina in Nerja is as good as you get a seafood freiduría in all of Andalucía. Have splurged here on several occasions, but you can also get a three course lunch Menu del día with drinks included for 8-9€. As in most restaurants/tapas bars in Nerja, delicious and free tapas to choose with every glass of beer/wine/mineral water in the bar area, usually some 1,50-2€.
