Day trips from Galway

My son and I are staying in Galway for 10 days and will have a car. We are interested in making day trips to interesting places. We wonder if anyone has some good ideas. This is our first trip to Ireland.
Thanks,
Toni Campbell

We went ot Ireland in 2005. I can't remember how far it was but IMO, the Cliffs of Mohr are not to be missed.

Also, if you like oysters, there's a place called Moran's about 20 minutes outside Galway that is fantastic.

South Connemara one day; north Connemara another.

Search the forum for "A Connemara Weekend".

Definitely take a trip to Connemara. I'd also highly recommend the Aran Islands - well worth a visit.

There are quite a few places you could visit from Galway including Connemara and Clifden, Cong Co.Mayo where the film The Quiet Man was made starring John Wayne & Maureen O'Hara (very famous over here!) aswell as Ashford Castle grounds which is beside Cong. You could also visit Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and do the Medieval Banquet there although if you were doing that I'd probably stay nearbyas you mightn't feel like driving back to Galway afterwards (it's about 2 hours from Galway but very near Shannon). If you decided to leave Galway you could head North towards Sligo and Donegal - both very beautiful Counties IMHO..... just some things to consider.

Thank you for your suggestions. We will be staying in Galway for 4 nights. It sounds like we should spend a day or 2 exploring Connemara, and a day at the Aran Islands(Inishmore I guess). Would you also recommend seeing the Cliffs of Moher?
