Day trips from Barcelona
 

I am going to Barcelona next week. Could anyone recomend some nice day trips from Barcelona. Any surrounding wine regions?<BR><BR>Thanks<BR>

Hi James,<BR><BR>I would recommend a trip to the monsetary town of Montserrat ( short train journey then a cable car up to the town) which offers great views and good walks.<BR>There is also the seaside town of Sitges which is supposed to be good.<BR>

We took a tour of the Torres winery and enjoyed it very much.

There are many...<BR><BR>Freixenet offers tours of their wineries (mainly Cava or sparkling white wine).<BR><BR>Girona is quite nice, and easily coupled with an afternoon trip to Figueres and the Dali Museum.<BR><BR>Many people go to Montserrat. While the setting is quite nice and the scenery is very dramatic, the place feels dull and overcommercialized, IMHO. Not too many people go to Poblet or Santas Creus. The scenery is equally dramatic, amongst vineyards, and both monasteries are just fantastic, specially Poblet.<BR><BR>Sitges is going to be too cold to enjoy it.<BR><BR>If you are there during the weekend, you may go for lunch at Pals or Peratallada, little medieval towns to the north of Barcelona.<BR><BR>The easiest way to move around is if you have a car. You can get a Mercedes A-class or a Smart for very little money at easyrentacar.com

Take a day trip to Monseratt, (an old monastery set up in the mountains. Take a local train (approximately one hour), and just outside the station is a cable car which takes you up. Wander around the old pilgrim trails, and check out the basilica.<BR>Another nice daytrip from Barcelona is to visit the Dali museum in Figueras.<BR>

Is it best to get a car or are the trains more than adequate? It seems like some of the destinations are easier to reach by car, but I prefer train if possible.

In Barcelona, having a car may be a liability. Traffic can be horrid and parking is scarce and expensive.<BR><BR>To go out of Barcelona, a car is usually the best way to go.

james,<BR>Another thought: If you're interested in Roman ruins, the very interesting city of Tarragona has plenty of antiquities to see, and the Euromed or Arco trains from Sants station will speed you down to Tarragona in about an hr. <BR>see www.renfe.es

I just returned from Barcelona. We took a day trip to a couple of the wineries outside of the city and also to Montserrat. I'd recommend both. We did not want to rent a car, so we hired a private tour guide to take us to all of these sites. I think she also gives tours to other places such as Girona and the town where the Dali Museum is, and of course, Barcelona. Her name is Debi and her e-mail address is [email protected].

If you like Dali, don't miss out the Dali museum in Figueras.

I'm with Sharon. If you like Salvador Dali, the museum in Figueras is a must-see. It is unique. There are other towns in the area with Dali connections as well.
