pmuzzy17, I am planning a stay near Radda and after a quick glance I am finding the potential for more day trips than our week's stay will allow. It is certainly helpful for my planning to have this post come to the top. Thanks, Deborah

But, Deborah, you could find this - and other threads - by searching. Which I highly recommend you do. There's a Search the Forums box on the top right of the page. You might find the Advanced search more helpful.

There's no need to bring a thread to the top, especially if it might have out-of-date information. You can bookmark a thread of particular interest to you, to get to it quickly.

mimar, yes, I do use the search feature often but I don't find the search results all that helpful at times if I have a general question so it was very timely for me to find this post. I am just starting my research so had never heard about Cypress lined roads. Now I'm going to see if I can find some while on day trips from Radda Deborah

Actually, it isn't out of date information, Mimar. I am going to the same hotel in Radda in Chianti for 5 days in Sept. / October.

I have no alterior motives here. I was trying to be helpful. No need to be snotty.

This time we will probably repeat Siena but then try Cortona, Montepulciano, perhaps Arezzo and Lucca.

Lots of great info from everyone but several places are total tourist traps, so if you want to stay away from the buses and the people. Here are some suggestions. We have been to italy 5 times and Radda 3.

Get a book called Walking and Eating in Tuscany. Wonderful walks around Radda, Volpai, Badia a Coltibuono and small trattoria's, etc throughout the walks. Stay away from Siena, San Gim. Drive to hotel called Felice San Borgo and have a fabulous meal and a great hike directly from there through the vineyards.

The book has lots of other wonderful hikes, we have probably taken 1/2 of them, and eating in these little behind the scenes places is a total treat! Enjoy!
