Day Trip to Travnik from Sarajevo

We want to take a day trip to Travnik from Sarajevo by bus. Anyone know which bus station to go to and how to get the bus schedule? Any other tips are welcome!

Consider taking an excursion tour. Insider Tours has a combined day trip to both Travnik and Jajce for 69 Euros per person. I did not take this excursion but did take an Insider tour within Sarajevo and would use them again. I had a car and drove from Sarajevo to Travnik on the way to Jajce, where I spent a night.

In my opinion, a self-guided day trip by bus just to Travnik wouldn't really be worth the effort - the town isn't that big and there isn't tons to see there - but combined with Jajce it would be well worth stopping for a few hours in Travnik especially with a guide. I'm not sure how practical it would be to see both in one day by public bus.

Jajce is really unique, with the amazing waterfall below the town, and the scenery on the ride from Travnik to Jajce is especially beautiful. Both towns have wrecked fortresses above them that I'm sure you would visit on the excursion. You'd probably visit the old watermills near Jajce too - there's a picture of them on the tour page on their website for this excursion.

If 69 Euros/person seems too pricey, I am guessing you would be able to find a guide and a driver for less than that, though. Everything seemed really cheap to me in Bosnia, but the Insider tours did seem a tad expensive compared to everything else. But they have the reputation...

Andrew, thanks for the idea. We have a special interest in Travnik so that's why we just want to go there. I've had a hard time finding out which bus to take, which bus station, and what the schedule is, and figure we might have to wait until we get there. But I thought I'd ask in case anyone is familiar with this.

Looks to me from Google Maps that the bus station in Sarajevo is on the west side of town just north of the university. I presume you'll be staying in/near the old town(?) so you might take a local bus from there to the bus station. Google shows bus #41 being a frequent bus from the old town.

Try getbybus.com to find daily bus departures to/from Travnik. (It shows the Sarajevo bus station's address as being "Put života 2, Sarajevo" if you want to map it). Of course, confirm everythinf after you get there.

Yes, we're staying near the old town. In addition, there's Centrotrans, which goes to Travnik. I guess we'll just ask our hosts what they recommend. Thanks!
