Day trip to Selinute - how & from where?

I have almost got my Sicily itinerary worked out, but one thing has me stuck - how to do a day trip to Selinute.

Is it possible to do this by public transport from Agrigento, Castelvetrano, Mazara del Vallo, Palermo, or anywhere else nearby? It needs to be somewhere I can find budget accommodation - I tried Sciacca but nothing available.

I am already staying a couple of nights in Agrigento, so it would be great if I could do it from there. I'm in and around the area from the 25th to the 30th of June.

I have searched and searched and haven't found an answer. Has anyone done this?

Here's a link that SEEMS to say that Autolinee Segesta has a line Trapani - Segesta - Castelvetrano - Selinunte:

http://sicilia.indettaglio.it/ita/au...mata=Selinunte

but I wasn't able to find the route on Segesta's own Web site.

Maybe if you fiddle around with it for a while, you'll find it.

Castelvetrano is the closest big town and must have local bus service.

Um, silly question, but why not just stay in Selinunte? It's a beautiful seaside town with some nice restaurants, and the archeological park is a long walk, or short taxi ride, away.

My first idea was to try to stay in Seliunte, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything affordable!

I have actually just booked something at Mazara del Vallo, which is quite nearby (see my other post: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34627912).

If I can't get to Selinute directly from there, I'll try going to Castelvetrano and finding a bus (thanks for the link Eloise, I hadn't seen that one).

As you say Bob, I'm sure there are local buses, but I haven't been able to find anything on the web. It might just be a matter of asking around once I get there - there must be a way!

Bye the way Bob, I loved your photos of your recent trip, I am now even more excited about going!
