Day trip TO London

Will be in Brussels after Christmas and am planning to take a ride on the Eurostar, either a day trip or overnight. Is Waterloo station near any interesting sights or museums? Can you recommend a place to stay near the station?

From Waterloo Station, you can travel by tube to any attraction in London. Near Waterloo is the London Eye, across the river is Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abbey. The Imperial War Museum is near Waterloo also, I believe. As for places to stay the night I am not sure, but again you can travel by tube to any neighborhood you would like to stay.

Also walking distance from Waterloo: the Tate Modern and the rebuilt Globe Theater.

Don't forget the London Aquarium.

It is open every day of the holidays, except Christmas Day.

Here is a link to the London underground map. You'll see Waterloo station (and underground) sort of in the middle all the way south-south of the Thames. This area used to be not very nice. In fact I think Waterloo station is the only train station without a hotel. But with the opening of the Tate modern (which used to be a power station), the area is starting to get trendy. The London Marriott County Hall is near the waterloo tube stop. Here's a website I found with other hotels in the area but you might want to stay elsewhere closer to shops or theater.

Hi. I don't know if this is the sort of thing you're looking for, but my husband and I are doing a similar day trip from Paris to London, and I found a site: http://www.theoriginaltour.com/
It's a double-decker hop-on hop-off bus. We're thinking about doing that.

The hop on hop off bus is a great way to see the major attractions in London if you are going to be there for just a day or so. It is good for 24 hours from purchase time and you can get off at any time to visit a site and get on a later bus. Really an efficient way to see as much as you want.

Definitely try and stay overnight if you have the chance. A day trip wouldn't leave you very much time in London to see very much.

I say this especially if you are coming from Brussels where, in my opinion, there's not a huge amount to do compared to London.
