Day trip to Loch Lomond
 

Mid October I will be in Scotland and I want to do a day trip to Loch Lomond from Glasgow. I will take the train to Balloch. Now I need some advise about what I'm thinking. From Balloch I will catch a boat (sweeny) to Balamha and go around the national park and then back to Balloch by boat. Do you think this is good? Also I cannot find public transport website that shows time tables from Balloch to Luss and back as people said that Luss is nice as well...or I can walk it to there? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sweeneys (www.sweeney.uk.com) run cruises from Balloch. Cruise Loch Lomond (www.cruiselochlomond.co.uk) run cruises from Tarbet which can be reached by bus or train from Glasgow (the railway station is called Arrochar & Tarbet).

What do you think about a boat trip from Tarbet to Inversnaid and back..is it good. Are there some small walking paths in Inversnaid? Thanks.

I haven't been to Inversnaid but it looks to be a beautiful spot. There's just a hotel there:

The western shore of Loch Lomond has a busy road, so the eastern side of the Loch is best for walking.

Inversnaid is right on the West Highland Way, so you could walk north or south from there along the Loch, but you'ld have to retrace your steps back to the hotel. I walked about an hour or so south from the hotel. A pleasant walk, not difficult in that there was not much altitude change. Footpath was quite rooty, rocky in places. You would want to have proper hiking boots with some ankle support.

If you go up the hill on the paved road from Inversnaid you will find on one side of the road, a circular path you can take and, on the right, the RSPB reserve which you can also walk round

In addition to hiking boots, you will need proper rainwear, probably water-resistant pants as well as jacket. And warmer layers as needed. According to www.weatherbase.com for Glasgow, it rains 24 of the 31 days in October.
