Day Trip to Florence: Where to Park

A group of us will be taking a day trip to Florence from Montisi. One option is to drive to Chiusi, park, and take the train to Florence. The other option is to drive to Florence and pay to park outside the city. Any suggestions on where to park that is within walking distance to the center of Florence?

Piazzale Michelangelo. Beautiful view of the city skyline. South of the Arno. Parking is free. Walk down into town takes about 20-30 minutes.

I suggest the train. But why Chiusi - that's in the wrong direction.

Why not board it in Sinalunga, switch in Arezzo, or drive to Arezzo in the first place?

Sinalunga is probably the closest train station to Montisi, but the overall journey to Florence would be almost 3 hours one way. (Drive 00:15 and train 2:38.)

Buonconvento is a little farther away from Montisi, but the train segment would be shorter. The overall journey to Florence would be 2:15 hours. (Drive 00:30 and train 1:45.)

But you can drive to Florence in about 90 minutes.

I don't know how long you can park at Piazzale Michelangelo.

Below is a link to a website for parking in Florence. Scroll down and click on Parcheggio Oltrarno (or Piazza Beccaria). On the next screen, scroll down to the Google map. In the window inside the map, choose "To here" and type in Montisi Italy on the address line. Click "Get Directions," and you'll get turn-by-turn directions from Montisi to this specific parking area. Note there will be tolls, and you'll also need coins for the parking meter/machine (1.50 euros per hour or fraction, 18 euros for the day).

Thank you Jean, TuckH and DalaiLlama - Great info on parking! The length of the train ride is why we don't want to take that option - either from Chiusi or Sinalunga. We will opt to drive and then park. Thanks again!
