Day trip to Capri
Hi all,
We are basing ourselves in sorrento for 4 days. We'd like 1 of those days to be in Capri. I understand we take a ferry to the island. We don't care to shop or eat while we are there. We like walking and love nature. What do u recommend for us? Modest budget family of 5 physically fit (14,14,15 year old teens). The grotto seems too expensive for just a few minutes. Any advice is welcomed! |
Hi
The Villa San Michele - http://www.villasanmichele.eu - is well worth a visit. So too the Gardens of Augustus (free of charge) - http://www.capri.net/en/s/augustus-gardens-via-krupp. You'll love the cable car ride to Mount Solaro, especially the teens. This map should be useful - http://www.capritourism.com/imgg/dow...pri_map_en.pdf |
We bought day passes for the little buses that travel around the island and just went where the bus went, getting off and on at different sights.
We really enjoyed the chairlift from Anacapri (mentioned by worldinabag). You can walk down from Mt. Solaro, but be aware the trail is poorly signed and you need to wear good walking shoes and carry water. There are a snack bar and toilets at the top of the lift. There are public footpaths in different parts of the island. Ask for a map at the Tourist Info Office in the harbor. |
Don't take the ferry, take a hydrofoil, which only takes 20 minutes to get to Capri.

Thanks everyone! I did more research on the island and it sounds lovely!

The hike up to the ruins of Villa Jovis (Emperor Tiberius house) is definitely worth it! The views are stunning!

arnthal- do you know the price difference between the ferry and hydrofoil? Everything times 5 is so expensive :-)
