day trip to Brussels from London

My husband and I will be traveling to London for 1 week in October and were thinking of taking a day to Brussels. Has anyone does this, if so would you recommend this trip, what is the best way to buy train tickets and how long did you have in Brussels. Recommended sites too. Thanks

Why?

Of all the European capitals . . .

Are you a big fan of the EU?

Do you want to walk past NATO headquarters?

The Atomium seems pretty neat, but not 7 hours out of my dang way neat; especially if I can reach Dover Castle and the cliffs in about two hours.

If you don't know of sites to see, go look into the subject and determine whether there's anything so interesting that you want to spend 6-7 hours or more making a round-trip to see.

If I'm in London, I can easily think of MANY things to do in or around that city that are at minimum equally interesting as a visit to Brussels.

And you lose an hour going to Brussels due to the time change, on top of the amount of time it takes to get there.

Brussels has a tourism website like every other city in the world. So go to it and see if there's anything so great you can't miss.

I think Brussels is well worth a visit. Grand Place and surrounding area, the area around the Cathedral. Avenue Luise is very elegant. There are several good museums.

It's like going to NYC for a week and deciding to have a day out to see Washington.

The Eurostar takes 2 hours each way, with a 1 hour time difference (and a change of currency). http://www.eurostar.com/dynamic/index.jsp

If you don't know now what you want to go to Brussels for, it's a very time-consuming and expensive idea. London and Brussels are each worth a week of your time separately.

Ok thanks!!!!! I think we will skip Brussels until we have more time. I appreciate the input.

geez. That was fast. I would go to Brussels just for lunch and be happy. The food is so much better there than in London.

Lille is an attractive city and is nearer to London - only an hour and a half on the train.

I really like Brussels, but I don't think I'd do a day trip from London.

If you're going to spend 200+ quid on lunch, you should be able to meet even zeppole's high standards in London. I can let you know some disappointing places to eat in Brussels if you want.
