Day trip ideas from Heidelberg?

My husband is in Heidelburg for two weeks on business; he's looking for options for a 1-2 day trip this weekend. Has a car or could easily take the train. Plans to leave either Friday night or early Saturday morning and has to be back on Sunday night. Ideas??? Thanks

Eberbach, on the Neckar, is a fun little river town. Very much a for-Germans retreat, as it's all about peace and quiet.

Beautiful area upstream along the Neckar River. Hirschhorn and Hirschhorn Castle, Michelstadt (old walled town) Bad Wimpfen (dozens and dozens of half-timbered homes) are all spots I've enjoyed. All are accessible by train from Heidelberg's main station.

cruise and or drive up the Necar valley is fun and scenic. I also like the nearby Odenwald

If you have interest in Roman ruins, Trier is about a 2-hr drive and arguably has the best ones in Europe outside of Italy. I thought the baths were more interesting to explore (though much smaller) than the Baths of Caracalla in Rome. Also makes a good base for visiting wineries in the Mosel Valley.
