Day trip help
 

Hello-
Two of my girlfriends and I are flying into Naples Aug. 21, then staying in Positano for 4 days and Capri for 2 days. There is an exhaustive amount of information on the web, but I am having trouble planning day trips in surrounding areas (sorrento, ravello, etc.). Does anyone have any suggestions? Also we were planning on taking the hydrofoil from Naples to Positano, but can not find info. about scheduling or transfers from the Naples airport to the hydrofoil. Please help!!!! Thanks :)

Busses (Sita) travel between the towns on the coast all day and are very cheap. You won't have any problems daytripping. The train line Circumvesuviana runs between Sorrento and Naples. Take this if you want to daytrip to Pompeii.

From Positano: Amalfi and Ravello - easy on same day - if fit and willing lovely few-mile gently uphill hike on nice paths from Amalfi to Ravello. Greek temple of your dreams? Then head to Salerno and take train or bus to Paestum - lovely old Greek temple in rural setting (can get tours from Positano, or take bus or boat to Salerno then bus, better, or infrequent trains. Salerno is a so-so seaside town. Not bad, not worth going out of your way for.
And take thrilling Amalfi buses to Sorrento (not much here but pleasant restaurant-, cafe- and tourist shop filled town) and then take above-mentioned CircumVesuviana train to Pompeii.
From Capri: Ischia, a nearby island that many like as much or more than Capri.
Don't neglect Naples - though has seedy aspects also lots of neat things - few towns in Europe look so old-world - kind of like all Italian towns looked in 50s and 60s - narrow alleys with laundry strung between the buildings. Not a dolce vita but a vita!
