day trip from St Petersburg to Moscow?

I will be in St Petersburg for 4 days at the end of April? Should I fly for a day to Moscow? If so, how do I arrange this and should I hire a guide? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Also any recommended reading?

It's not enough time to see Moscow in a day. I'd stay in St Peterburg and maybe visit Novgorod but even that might be pushing it.

Four days is not enough for the basics in St Pet - and if you fly to/fro Moscow for a day you won't have time to leave the airport.

It is doable. If you get up in time to catch the 8:40AM you get into town in Moscow around noon. Fly back with the 9:35PM to arrive at 10:55.

If you can afford a guide and driver you can do a drive-by of some essentials. Is it worth it? That's for you to know.

You could use 4 days in St Pete easily. Make sure you have your visa.
