Day trip from Paris to Monoco
Greetings--
I was thinking of taking a day trip or overnight trip from Paris to Monoco. Are there any trains/busses that go there? What is the approximate cost? Thanks |

http://www.fodors.com/miniguides/mgr...ur_section=tra You'd need to take the train from Paris to Nice and onward from there, which even via AVE is too long a journey for a day trip or even one night, IMO. Here's the French rail company's site: www.sncf.fr/indexe.htm |

There are direct TGV trains from Paris to Monaco/Monte Carlo and a direct overnight train. One TGV (AVE is high-speed TGV-like train in Spain) leaves Paris Gare de Lyon daily at 11:50 am arrives in Monaco at 4:19 pm,overnight train nightly from Paris Austerliz station, leaves 9:17pm, arrives in Monaco 8:20 next morning. There are all different fare levels on French trains, the cheaper tickets requiring advance purchase and are often sold out weeks in advance on Paris-French Riviera routes. Full fare would probably be about $90-100 each way in second class; a French Railpass would give four days of travel in a one month period at about the same price. www.sncf.com has fare details. Monaco has just opened a spanking new rail station in the heart of town. the whole rail line through Monaco is now in a tunnel, with the new station hewn out of the rocks.

I took a helicopter from de-gaul down there - it's much quicker than the train ....'blew my wedge' at the casino - hired a Lamborghini and missed one of the sharp curves on the hills above..ripped through a hedge a landed the damn thing in someones swimmingpool..all this because the girlies dropped the Lafayette '63 into my lap! - cost? $57,000 bit of a Bugger!

Right you are, Bob! (Just back from Spain and have my train acronyms mixed up - TGV, not AVE for France.) The website I gave was correct, though....
