Day trip from Paris
We will be in Paris for 5 days in May and then going on to the Dordogne for 2 weeks. I thought it might be nice to do a daytrip from Paris by train. Has anyone got any ideas? Perhaps somewhere that is different scenery-wise from Dordogne would be good. We are not huge museum-goers but prefer wandering around enjoying scenery, local colour, etc. Thank you.

Reims for a little champagne tasting.

Chartes, to see the cathedral

Many many choices.
Monet's house at Giverny is my favorite. And very different from Paris and Dordogne. |
Marly-le-Roi was quaint and nice (just there two weeks ago), and would be very beautiful that time of year.
Reims is great too! |
bookmarking. I'll be in Paris end of May :)

Buy the book, "An Hour from Paris". It is the best guide for day trips using public transportation. Wonderful.
Provins and Senlis are 2 of my favorites. |
Good suggestions above. Also add Versailles to the list.

Rouen by way of Les Andelys. (Spellling?)

Thanks everybody. Mmmm champagne! I want to say "chompunya" like The Continental on SNL!

NOTHING near Paris will look anything like the Dordogne, so stash that concern.
Fontainebleau, St-Germain-en-Lay, Auvers-sur-Oise, Ile des Impressionistes, Chartres, Reims, Rouen, Vaux-le-Vicomte, Chantilly and Senlis...and many more make good day trips from Paris. |
London. Takes about the same time to get there as to Normandy.
