Day trip from Paris????

Can anyone suggest a nice day trip from Paris.
We would like to take the fast train.
We have been to Paris many times and have a lot of time on this trip.
However we would like to keep our home base in Paris.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks

I've done a day trip to London on Eurostar thru Paris Vision Tours and was very pleased. Once you get there, you have a pass for the hop on/hop off bus and are basically on your own.

We also went to Versailles for a day on our own, and it was very easy and nice, as well.

Hi

You can do Bruges and back. Closer trips are Chartres, Versaille, Giverney, Chantilly.

But he wants to take the fast train, which limits the selection: Maybe Lyon?

Good point St Cirq.

He can take the THALYS to Bruges.

OTOH maybe it's the destination and not the fast train that's important. :)

yeah, I think bbonz specifically wants a TGV experience. I would highly recommend Lyon for that. Other possibilities are Tours (and then you'd have to get to a chateau or something) or a city on the way to Tours (Blois or Amboise) or Angers, a bit farther.

Of course London is possible if you want to spend that much time on a high-speed train, although I'd rather go to somewhere down south rather than London in that case (such as Avignon).

Hm, what about Dijon? That would be even closer than Lyon.
I've past through with the TGV from Switzerland and I think, there is enough to see for a day.
The TGV experience is really special, I must admit.

Thanks for help.
Are there any beach areas to go to for a day? Interesting towns? Beautiful scenery?
I would like to experiance the fast train!

I suggest Giverny. You can tour the gardens in a half day but we enjoyed walking into the town and having lunch and visiting the American museum. Giverny makes a lovely day trip from Paris.

I hope bbonz2 doesn't mind my asking a question under her post but what do you think about a daytrip from paris to amsterdam?

I understand it's 6-hr(?) trip one-way. Am I crazy???!!! I was planning to leave in the wee hours of the morning. I just really, really want to visit the Anne Frank House and get feel for Amsterdam--then stay longer next time around. Please comment.

A day trip to a beach is not really within the realm of possibility, especially if you want to take the TGV, unless you're prepared for a very long day. You could take the TVG to Bordeaux (3 hours), then hop a bus to Arcachon, but that would be about 8 hours of transportation in one day just to get to a beach - and a rather uninspiring one at that.

Getting to the Côte d'Azur and back in a day is, I think, simply not feasible.

You could take the slow train to Caen and find a way to the beach from there, but again you'd have more traveling time than beach time.

Maybe there are other possibilities I'm not thinking of, but if you take a look at a map of France and examine distances you'll get an idea of what the problem is.
