Day Trip from Nimes: Avignon or Arles?
Would love to hear thoughts and opinions, please -- -- if there was time for only one day trip from Nimes, would you go to Avignon or Arles, and why? Thanks!
|
I'd go to Arles because you get to see the wonderful amphitheater not unlike its Nimes counterpart, 60 arches in its two remaining levels and the special musee Arleten
situated in a 16th century palace. Its theme is the arles life style over the centuries, and founded by the famous provencal poet, Mistral, |
p.s.,it's also closer to Nimes, too bad you can't visit both because they are so different in atmasphere and much to see in Avignon.
|
I prefer Arles.

Thanks for the quick replies! I wonder if I could do both in one long day....train from Nimes to Arles, to Avignon and back to Nimes? I'll have to check the DB website. :)
|
Nimes to Arles, could arrive early, like 8:09.....5 hrs there, then to Avignon at 13:15, 6 hours there, leave for Nimes 19:03.....would that be enough time in each to get a good "taste" of each town?

I would try to do both, as each has its own offerings. I think 5 and 6 hours in each would make for a long, but good, day.
|
StCirq -- thank you for your support of trying to do both in one day!! I'll do it!! (This will be in October, so I'll try to report back.)
