day trip[ from Livorno
I will be on a ship that will dock in Livorno What are good day trips- other than Florence - which is a little far- that we could do by train or bus?
|
Pisa and Lucca come to mind. Both are just north of Livorno. If you are an opera buff, Lucca would appeal as Puccini lived there. His favorite restaurant is still in business. Pisa, of course, features the tower.

We have done the Med a few times and LIVORNO is only about 1 1/2 hrs to FLORENCE-
DO NOT miss Florence- it is a fabulous city =even if for a few hours!!! Pisa--the only thing there is the TOWER and a bunch of people selling tourist trap souveniers....Not worth the stop, IMHO...We did it once and never went back....Everytime we hit Livorno, we take the cruise bus into FLORENCE-- YOU can divert from the masses on the bus and meet up with the bus at a pre-determined time...We have done that 3 times already.... Or you can rent a car and driver and split the cost with another couple and go directly to Florence much faster than the Cruise ship bus..... Either way- DO NOT MISS FLORENCE!! |
Hi SB,
Although I agree that Florence is great, I'm not sure that you will have time to do it justice. What time do ou have to get back to the ship? Tran schedules and prices are at www.trenitalia.com |
Hi Ira. Have been to Florence a couple of times and would prefer to see a town closer to Livorno. I think that my boat leaves early-about 6. We are supposed to arive at 7 so Florence is poasible I don' really want to spend 4 hours going and coming

Lucca is easily my choice--you can train there in about :40 and it is worth your time.

Ditto Bob's recommendation.
If a whole day in Lucca is too long, you could stop off in Pisa for an hour or 2. Pisa San Rossore station is a short walk from the Leaning Tower ... Steve |
Hi
