Day trip from Lisbon to Evora?

I am the lunatic that visits every prehistoric site I can find- stone circles, standing stones, dolmens, etc. I see that the ancient Celts on the mainland were busy at Almendres Cromlech near Evora with twin stone circles. Will be in Lisbon the end of April for several days. Does anyone have any advice about finding a guide to take me there? Google seems to think it is possible, just wondering what the Fodorites say...

There are 4 daily trains (1 1/2 hrs journey, 7 EUR/OW) and 20 daily buses (1 1/2 hrs journey, 12 EUR/OW) from Lisboa to Evora

Train to Evora

You'll want to take the train from Lisboa - Entrecampos to Evora, and not from Santa Apolonia, where the run begins.

From what I have read, the site cannot be reached by public transportation, so you need a car or a guide. True or not?

Almendres Cromlech

The Almendres Cromlech is to the west of Évora, so yes, you'll need a car. You can take a taxi from Évora, or there is a guided tour available (http://www.visitevora.net/)

>Getting there can be a little tricky. It’s only 16 kilometers from Evora, but the road is bad. It’s so bad that most busses can not get there and many taxi drivers will refuse to go there too. No public transport serves Almendres Cromlech. So if you want to go there, you will need your own transport. A rented car could be an option.<
