Thanks for the great posts and suggestions for hikes out of Interlaken. We will be there mid-September -- first time there -- and will certainly do some of these hikes.

Thanks from another who really appreciates the generous advice from the PalenQs, Bob Browns, Swandavs and others on this forum. I'd been thinking of taking my family on one or two of those frequently mentioned 'non demanding' highly scenic walks above and around Murren, Wengen and Gimmelwald, probably either in April or Sept/ Oct (when a lot of antipodeans prefer to travel), but from what I hear here it could be a bit dicey under foot at those times.

For what it's worth, my only Swiss mountain top experience was Mt Titlis nearly 30 years ago - I suspect it is not nearly in the same league as the Jungfrau and Schilthorn etc, but for someone whose previous highest mountain top experience had been Mt Kosciuszko (at 2228 metres, mainland Australia's highest point above sea level, named after a Pole by another) via the now banished rudimentary road and carpark, the view from the Titlis viewing platform was breathtaking and the three or four stage trip up quite an experience (and somewhat less expensive than the Jungfrau I recall).

i just came back frm swiss , n i have been to mt titlis , pilatus, jungfrau. i would suggest jungfrau if u one have one day , since i thought it was the best. my second choice would be mt titlis. but pls pls pls only go to this places if u have a clear day , otherwise is a real waste of time n money. i choose jungfrau , as the journey itself is so so scenic.

Jungfrau certainly is unique once up top - vast view over the aletsch Glacier field - awesome and chance to walk to and on the glacier, dog sleds, great views over Interlaken wedged between its lakes,etc.

that said the Schilthorn Excursion to me is as good, not better because that's hard to quantify with varying tastes but equally awesome. World's longest cable way i believe sweeps you up to an icy outpost with James Bond's memories and the unique revolving restaurant. Not much to do up there however - just a small patch of ice accessible - really is on a mountain peak. do both if can.
