Day trip from Barcelona? Single female

Hi!

I will be traveling to Barcelona the end of Oct for 7 days. I love Architecture, Art in any form, nature... Is there a day trip that you would suggest I shouldn't miss?? Or overnight if a must!! 2 nd trip ever to Europe. 1st trip was Rome and 1 day in Florence.

Thanks so much!!

Toledo is an easy bus or train trip away.

bilbo must be thinking of Madrid - from Barcelona Toledo is anything but an easy day trip.

Montserrat, the famed pilgrimage mecca just a short commuter train ride from Barcelona is my favorite day trip - the pilgrimage church is an architectural delight - folks come from far and wide to pay homage to the famous Black Madonna icon - there are nice walks in a stark environment.

Interested in Dali - then pay homage to him in Figueras, about an hour from Barcelona by train - see Dali's house and studio.

A second vote for Montserrat. Very easy to reach, as the train pulls in alongside the monastery and there's a gift shop and restaurant on site.

the monks at Montserrat also brew up a potent alcoholic concoction - they sell in the gift shop/restaurant by the main church.

Love the day trip ideas mentioned above.

Be sure to get up to Parc Guell -- in town, but not in the center. Fabulous Gaudi.

Thanks P, must have been miles away.

Barcelona, nope I can't help, partially as the Architecture in Barcelona is so lovely I struggle to leave it and when I have left the city it is always to visit wineries.

Well the Freixenet winery is a 7 storey bus-park buried in soil so I guess it is pretty wonderful but maybe only for engineers. :-)

If you stay in town pop up to the Olympic Centre, take the cable or furnicular (there are either) to the top but come down on foot and look at the diving training school, partially because the views from that high board are wonderful and I think it is where they shot the "dive through a car" advert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCvP6A6YQFY

The Torres ranch is again interesting for engineers, a no pumping winery, built into the side of a hill so the wine just slides from the top of the hill into the bottle. The bottling plant is all glass but you cannot visit it you have to just visit the rest of the place and taste the fantastic wine.

Anyone been to the Gaudi Colony and his crypt?

I've never been but this looks like a fantastic place to go.

Sorry CMS, you see I woke up tired this morning and now after a doze I'm finding all this stuff which just makes me want to go back. You are so lucky.
