Day tours...private or in a group for a 1st timer?
Have booked the following: Venice (Hotel Ala),Florence(Plaza Luchese),Rome(De La Ville Intercontinental),Amalfi(Santa Caterina)all for 3 nights each in July. But...have nothing else booked in ADVANCE. Want day/night tours of Rome but don't know if I should book it now for July or when we get there. Also, should we hire a private guide( I emailed a recommended guide named Alfredo but he has not responded) or go with enjoyrome or scaveal(spelling?)in a group. Also, how do I book Ufizzi and Accademia again? CAll direct?( I emailed Plaza Luchese to make me a res. but they did not respond to my email either.Last, but not least, what restaurant should we go to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversay, which falls on the 1st night we arrive in rome?( I emailed Ed on his site about this last question, but he did not respond, either) Come on all you experts, Rex,Bob the navigator,Ed, etc.HELP
I need your advice. Please answer my questions if you can. Much appreciation.

Margo,
Thanks for asking for my input.
I was surprised to find on my most recent trip to Rome (May 3-11) that I nearly waited too late to book a guided tour. Your choices will depend on how many others (if any) will be traveling with you.
I was satisified with the experience we had with http://www.romeinsight.com - - I think you were asking about http://www.scalareale.org - - they could NOT accommodate us - - but they did send us a nice list of alternatives (which included the website listed above). I have posted that list somewhere here on the forum. And I also corresponded with someone named "Mayta" - - (again search here on this forum) - - she seemed like she would be a good choice - - but she had nothing left for the dates we wanted, by the time we asked for her.
Keep in mind that many of these people are private individuals - - with no secretaries, staff or "infrastructure" to respond to inquiries.
Best wishes,
Rex

For the Uffizi and Accademia, try
http://www.florenceart.it
Each reservation costs 15,000 lire for the ticket plus 9,500 for their services--about $12 total.
