Day tours of Zurich
Hi,
Can anyone suggest a really good company which offers single-day tours of Zurich, Basel and maybe the surrounding area?
Also, what is the best car rental company to use in Switzerland?
Thanks!
Ros

If you can walk, the best way to see Zurich is on foot. Wear very comfortable shoes and visit the historic churches (Gross Munster comes to mind), shops, cafes, and restaurants in Old Zurich. There is a nice opera house near the bridge (I forget name of bridge) and if you crose the bridge you can tour trendy stores on the "new" side. I spent about 8 hours in Zurich one day and just walked and got so much out of it. Perhaps there are walking tours you can try, but I just was on my own. It helps to know some Swiss German for common phrases.

Hi RMF1998,
The best "company" to give city tours is the Tourism Office of the city itself.
Here's a link to Zurich city's various tours:
http://www.zuerich.com/sightseeing/c...ml?__locale=en
They also list guided excursions to nearby sights on the page titled "Excursions."
Here's a link to Basel city's guided tours:
http://www.basel.ch/en/tourism_leisure/highlights
Rental car: use the train!
Have fun!

The Tourist Office is in the train station. I took a 3 hour walking tour that was very good. I signed up for it the day of the tour.
I use www.autoeurope.com for car rentals in Europe. They have good rates and are easy to work with.

I took the 2-hour trolley tour, only because it was raining. It was a little overpriced, but gave us a good feel for the city.
Later that day it stopped raining, and we walked thru the old town. We bought an unlimited trolley pass for the day, and noticed some of the lines and where they went while we were on tour, and just did a hop on/hop off throughout the city.
