Day Room at Heathrow?

I have a 10 hour layover at Heathrow in late December, and I'm looking for advice about a hotel that offers day rooms (available at 10 a.m.) close to the airport. I could easily make do with a comfortable lounge in the departure area of Terminal 5--can anyone share experiences with Terminal 5 facilities? It looks like there are only British Air clubs restricted to "executive" level members. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated!

There is a new yotel right at Heathrow that you can book by the hour. Go to www.yotel.com.

Find out if you can buy a lounge pass from British Airways or another airline that has a lounge there.

We stayed at the Yotel at Heathrow in July - it was great .... no messing with those wretched hotel hopper buses to the airport hotels or taxis looking for a longer fare. It was very comfortable ... we slept, watched TV, checked our e-mails, showered .... and just walked out of the hotel to catch our plane. Such a great concept! We belong to the Admirals Club ... but sometimes the layover is just too long (like yours) to hang around a lounge.

If you don't find a lounge or day room, there are shower facilities at Heathrow that make for a nice break - refreshing and inexpensive.

Stayed in a day room once at the Sheraton at Heathrow on our way to Kenya.

There is no lounge at T5 you can buy day access to.

The Yotel is at T4, which is quite a complicated shlep landside from T5: the normal way is to get the free train to T3, then change trains to T4. Allow at least half an hour each way.

You might try the T5 Sofitel to see if they hire out dayrooms.

This is from my Africa trip report:

"We got to LHR about 10 AM, and after passing through customs with our luggage and getting pounds at an ATM, we took a taxi to the Novotel LHR where we had reservations for a room from 9 AM to 6PM. The taxi fare was 11 €. It was faster and cheaper than the 'hoppa' which would have cost 16 for the four of us, and would have taken a more circuitous route. We had a small, spartan room, but it was adequate for a few hours sleep." ((*))
