Day Packs and Museums

As I tour a city I like to carry water and snacks in a day pack. Do museums still allow you to bring them inside?

It varies very much by museum and by the size of the pack. Some require that you check almost everything bigger than a small handbag - others are more generous. You probably need to check the website of each museum for exact, current info.

My experience is limited to London and Paris. Some museums allowed me to carry my daypack with me while others required me to check it. No problems other than a fairly long line at the counter at the Louvre.

The V&A let me carry in a fairly large pack. They never even asked to look at it.

Just back from London & Austria. Only place that had a problem with day pack was Harrods, had to carry it on our arm, not on back. In London, though, several places checked our packs. Did not mind the exta security!
