Day in Paris
I am surprising my husband by taking him to Paris on Wednesday 8/3/06 and would like to make it an amazing day. Its our 20th wedding anniversary and so it has to be good! Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it special and romantic, besides all the usual Eiffel Tower type things? Any great ideas for restaurants? I don't want to spend the whole day in a restaurant but have read reviews on Aux Lyonnais. If anyone has suggestions I would be REALLY grateful.
thanks a lot. |
Just a small suggestion in future to write out the date of your visit. In America it would be interpreted as August 3rd if no one checked their calendars to realize that you meant March 8th instead.
As to restaurants you could try the well-regarded Le Violon d' Ingres in the 7th district. http://www.leviolondingres.com/eng_home.htm |
Thanks, I hadn't thought of that - which is rather stupid considering I used to lived in the US ! thanks for the the tip about the restaurant. I will look it up.

Hi jjah,
It is March 5. You want a special restaurant on March 8. You are going to have to get on the phone STAT. What's your budget? ((I)) |
Hi, thanks for the interest. Don't really have a budget, don't mind what I need to spend, it's more that I want the atmosphere. Although, saying that 1000 Euros is out! . Probably around 300 + or so. Any ideas on where to go before/ after lunch?
Thanks heaps. |
since it is already late sunday night in Paris/London you only have two days - many of the wonderful restaurants in Paris book up far ahead. It is quite likely any gems Fodorites might recommend are already full up that night.
My suggestion is to head down to WH Smiths or your local bookshop/newsagent and pick up the Time Out Eating & Drinking for Paris -- and then just get on the phone and find a place. |
Why not try for lunch at Jules Verne?
It would save waiting in line to go up the Eiffel Tower and provide an excellent lunch. |
RJD: Thank you, I love this idea, will call them first thing in the morning. Tried to book into Le Violon D'Ingres - thank you Frankcophil03 but no luck - Looks fantastic though. Keep the ideas coming.!

Champagne/drinks on the top of Tour Montparnasse where you get a view of the Eiffel Tower instead of vice versa!! :)
http://www.tourmontparnasse56.com/index.html http://www.cieldeparis.com/ http://www.bestrestaurantsparis.com/...p?id_resto=257 Views are stunning! A group of us went here a few weeks ago & took gorgeous photos. Unfortunately, the bar was closed to us that night as someone had rented Ciel de Paris and had The Gypsy Kings playing! So we got to hear The Gypsy Kings live although we didn't get to see them. Amazing. |
Thanks! didn't know this place existed. Its been a few years since I have been to Paris. Looks amazing. Can't wait for Wednesday now. Glad to hear you had a great time.

It is a very popular restaurant. It's no wonder it's booked already. I would suggest you sign up at www.reservethebest.com. It's a free restaurant booking site and they get confirm with you within 24 hours.

They've recently changed their name to Best Restaurants of Paris. I noticed because I've been trying to get some links together and all my old links to specific restaurants now take me directly to the front page. |
Even if you enter the Reserve the Best website address it automatically redirects you to the Best Restaurants Paris site. Either way you'll get through.

Dear RJD, thanks very much. Just made a booking at Le Jules Verne. Fabulous.
