I think this is an example of where more info in the original post would have precluded all the unhelpful/irrelevant replies. It doesn't excuse rudeness, but IMO some of the comments were to be expected considering how little the posters had to go on.

This is all very strange. You are jumping on those who express concern about your daughter's safety. Is that concern so awful? In fact, in the Lounge you said you don't have specific information on the modeling agency -- you need that information. You don't mention her age or previous experience -- that makes a difference. How can anyone suggest where she should or shouldn't go if we have no idea of her background? Sorry if we're concerned about her....

Excuse me - but YOU said you had concerns as we could well imagine.
Obviously Turkey is a country visited by huge numbers of tourists every year without any problem and there would be reasons for concerns only in specific circumstances. We could only try to guess the reasons for your concerns (daughter's age, travel inexperience, the fct that the offer looks unusual). And the fact that you find the questions and advice of people trying to be helpful to be rude - is absolutely incredible to me. If all you wanted was a list of restaurants and clubs - well I would suggest that a young woman with an international modeling career would easily find out about all of those from her colleagues in her job. After rereading all of this - I'm tending to think this is a troll to generate negative comments about Turkey, which I found to be a fascinating and friendly country - but which I wouldn't send a naive 15 year old to wander around alone. |
This is not a troll to generate anything.
In the time I have spent dealing with "concerned" persons, I could have been to Turkey and back, and answered my own questions. I appreciate those that had good intentions, but those that didn't have totally taken over the post, and ruined any worthwhile information being obtained. Maybe there are people that just watch the posts all day and see what they can do to demoralize and obstruct. Going forward I will know that if I want a day of being misquoted and discussions with rude people, then this is the place to find it. |
Oh how I love these threads.
My daughter’s got a modling gig in Turkey. Any hints? And away we go. There’s better modelling in Paris. I don’t eat turkey. She’s not asking about eating turkey, she’s asking about going there. Any hints? Try a medium oven, cover the breast with foil. Turkey is not maudlin – I found it a very happy place when I last visited. Some of these responses are just rude. Eating meat is a major cause of cancer. Turkey’s not meat, it’s poultry. I’m not rude, I’d describe myself as being in rude good health, Remember the Alamo. And why can’t I hire a suitable car for my friend who stands six foot thirteen in Europe – and in Butte, Montana, as well. Montana is really beaut. And the elevation is some thousands of feet,I believe. And then someone hits the grey triangle of death. |
Kassanna: you STILL didn't give us any useful information on which to base recommendations. (For example, is she 16 or 26?) I'm inclined to agree that this one is ready for the grey triangle...

If you want useful answers you gotta give useful information. You didn't, then you got all huffy. Nuff said, as you can well imagine.

<< On that note, I hope everyone has a good week in whatever part of the world you are in, and please say something nice to someone at least once a day. You'll see it makes a difference. >>
You are a loving and concerned parent. OK I'm sorry you seem to be getting upset, Turkey is Europe - well you can argue boarders but it is going to be joining the EEC soon. It is a muslim country - but has been used by British and EU tourists as just another tourist destination. your origional question was << My daughter models and she is being requested to go to Turkey for a few months. I have a few concerns, as you can well imagine >> Well what are we suposed to imagine? My first thought was that you didn't know much or anything about Turkey. My second was that your daughter was not a seasoned traveller. Basicallly the only advice can give, and it is similar to everyone else on here, is that as long as the modelling assignment is legit (I have NO experience of modelling - you and your daughter do) then Turkey is no more dangerous or safe than anywhere else in Europe. |
I know I am coming late to the party but I thought I would add in my 2 cents just the same.
I own a model/talent agency. We loan out models to agencies to increase their visibility/marketability. Typically it is a 3 month contract with an option to renew. Presently, I am working with one agency in China and another in Turkey (part of the reason I stumbled upon this thread). The agencies taking on the model front the costs of the model travel and expenses. The model I am sending to Turkey is actually going BACK to Turkey, we are in the process of negotiating a better deal for her. In return, the model has the opportunity to travel and see the world (not just from the window of an airplane. As well as make money. We also work with actors. Most movie productions hire "local hires" so they do not have to pay travel exp. However, scenes can take as long as month to film and out of town actors will be put up for that amount of time or longer. |
