Data SIM card for Swiss and Czech Rep.

Hi,

We are going to Europe in end of June for 17 days to Czech Republic and Switzerland. Some of you had helped us in creating our detailed itinerary so we are so looking forward to making this trip. Thanks so much for that!

1. What we are wondering is that can we get a data SIM for our iPad that we intend to carry with us to the trip that we can use in both Czech republic and Swiss?

2. Which companies are the best/easiest to get card from? Can one card work in both countries? I saw Vodafone cards do not work in Swiss, is that correct?

3. We are OK buying 2 different cards as long as we know which companies to go with. Let us know about that.

4. Is there a way we can pre-purchase the card before the trip in the US or is it best to just get it from there once we reach? Getting a card in Prague should be OK but since we will not be spending any time in Interlaken in Swiss and directly head over to Murren, would there be a card available in any shop there? Otherwise, we will have to make a special trip to Interlaken just for this.

Please let us know, it will be very helpful!! Thanks!

We just bought SIM cards for our IPad in Sicily. When we arrived in Italy, we purchased the SIM card at the Rome airport. The clerk was so helpful and actually loaded it for us. I purchased the roaming data plan for my IPhone through ATT before we left - big mistake. The SIM card was only 10 Euro. Great deal, just take care of it as soon as you arrive in the airport or train station.

Thanks jescott54.. that is what we thought...

Can we get some more specific replies to our situation though? Thanks!

There is no pan-European wireless company. There are some that have operations in multiple countries, but they still operate each country separately. You will need to buy separate cards for each country, or suck up the roaming costs.

As for Wengen, you can try the post office. Swisscom has the best network, IME. No idea as to the best network in the Czech Republic.

Internationalism.eu sells sim and data cards that work all over europe. I have used the data product and can recommend it.

Not sure about the site above... a Lebara SIM that sells for
10 euros in Paris is 20 euros on the site...
