Danube River and Prague

Danube River and Prague
Can anyone suggest a good historical novel about the Danube River area of Germany, Austria, Slovakia and/or Hungary? What about Prague? We're starting our trip in Prague, then will cruise from Nuremberg to Budapest.

"Eclipse of the Crescent Moon" by Geza Gardonyi is a novel set in the period in which the siege of the castle of Eger took place (around 1552). Even if you don't go to Eger, which can be done as a day trip from Budapest, this novel certainly would inform you of 16th century events in Hungary.
I have never been to Nuremberg, but I gather it is on the Pegnitz River canal that connects the Danube River and the Main River (which is a tributary of the Rhine, I believe).

I can't make any guarantees, of course, but I'm wondering if your question would receive more answers if you started a new thread with a more specific title, e.g., "Historical novels about Czech Rep, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary."
I've now seen your other thread about the Jewish quarters of Prague and Budapest.
In light of that, I wonder if you would be interested in my blog about my trip to Serbia, Hungary, Vienna and Prague in September 2004. I haven't typed the Vienna and Prague sections yet.
However, our visits to Vienna and Prague were brief, touristy visits, whereas our vists to Hungary and Serbia (which I <b>have</b> described) were longer, more thorough and more explicitly tied to my family's history.
My blog isn't a historical novel, but it does make quite a few comments about real people and real events, which I believe are as valid as any that feature in a historical novel. The section on Serbia may not seem relevant to Hungary, but in fact is extremely relevant. Vojvodina, the province of Serbia that we visited, used to belong to Hungary. The fortress of Petrovaradin at Novi Sad is as representative a microcosm of Hungary's history as any place in Hungary itself.
A warning. Someone who read my blog did tell me it took him 3 - 4 hours to do so. Anyway, in case you're interested, it's at:

Thanks to all. I am aware that Prague is not on the Danube, and that Nuremberg is on the Main Danube Canal. Judy -- I'll post another thread with a more specific title if I don't get much response from this one. Am looking forward to reading your blog. Maybe you could let us know when you've got Vienna and Prague included. Thanks again.
