Dangerously bad weather disrupts travel in and from N. Europe

According to an AP story posted on Orbitz's main page, extremely high winds are disrupting travel within and from -- and presumably to -- Britain, Ireland, Belgium, and the Netherlands today (Sunday, European time). Several people have been killed by falling trees.

According to the article, many flights have been cancelled at Heathrow, Gatwick, and Schipol, among other airports, and rail, subway, sea, and road service is also affected.

The story is at:
http://www.orbitz.com/App/ViewTravel...2/7002/7001/-1

The winds arrive in Cental Switzerland about 15:00. It was quite a nice day up until then. I was surprised how quickly they came!

We drove from Brussels to Brugge and then along the French coast (Calais, Le Havre) to the Loire Valley yesterday. Fortunately, as it turned out, we had a late start, and missed the worst of the wind. It was quite gusty and today has also been pretty windy, but calm weather is expected to return tomorrow. Windy or not, the Loire Valley is still just beautiful!

Tahl, Just an fyi - listing an extremely long web address throws the format of all subsequent posts on that page out of kilter, hence the need to scroll horizontally to read.

Thanks for the information, Tom. I'll make sure not to repeat this mistake in the future!
