Dachau
I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to get to the Dachau Concentration Camp from Munich - I'm thinking of taking the train, and approximately how long it takes to get there.

Your help is appreciated!

Seems like ot would be very difficult by public transportation, based on my experience driving there. Really just a suburb of Munich; I'd recommend a tour bus or even a cab, if you don't want to drive.

Best wishes,

Rex
We went there directly on the S-bahn. A bus from the train depot connects to the former camp, known locally as the PZ Lager. Took about an hour from central Munich, if we recall correctly.

Sorry, make that KZ Lager.

Ditto the train and bus-don't remember details but it wasn't a long trip. I remember the bus was full and there were lots of conversations going on on the way there and utter silence on the way back. Quite an experience.

Julie,

Here are some specific directions for you. Hope they help.

You take the S2 line (suburban train) to the Dachau station. There are departures three times per hour.

The trip takes 19 minutes and requires a two-zone ticket, which will include your bus connection.

In front of the Dachau Hauptbahnhof, change for the local bus:
No. 726 Mon-Sat (or) No.724 Sun & Holidays

The buses leave the station about 10 minutes after the train arrives. Show your stamped ticket to the driver.

The driver will announce the stop:
(KZ-Gedenkstatte)---then follow the crowds. It's a 5 minute walk from the bus stop to the entrance to the camp.

Return buses leave from near the camp car park every 20 minutes or so. Ask at the
visitor center in the museum if you need directions.
