D-Day Vets, Free Rail Pass
A free rail pass is being offered to USA and Canadian D-Day Vets right now. There are also D-Day tours and other special offers at Franceguide. I think it's put out by the French government but am not sure.

There were other great deals on air fare, etc. so you might want to check and see what is on offer.
Specifically, the rail pass offer is at:

I believe the free railpass is also acquired when the vet registers on www.normandiememorie.com. They also offer free housing which at this time is probably with a family rather than a hotel.
Also, American Airlines is offering lower than normal airfares for those born before Jan 1930 - which includes more than the WWII vets. I recall a post dedicated to that. (Example: airfare 2 months ago to Paris from DFW was $1200; with a consolidator $650 and AA is offering theirs directly to the pre-1930 person at about $550.)
In booking our trip, I noticed virtually all museums have vets for free.
