D Day Beaches: Self Tour

We want to see the various different battlefields/sites at our own pace. Does anyone have a recommendation on guidebooks that provide a "self guided tour" of the area?

Thanks in advance!

Michelin Green for Normandy should suffice.

One of the steps I took in preparation was to visit the web sites of all the tour operators. When I realized that no single operator, except possibly one man who offered customized tours, covered all the sites that we wanted to see, I just made a listing from their web sites and made up my own tour. We enjoyed it.

Flem...we did the same as Cleveland Brown , above..worked out wonderfully well..have since advised many friends and family who all did the same based on the guidelines I did for them..yes, you DO have to do the reading and research..very satisfying to do your own thing! Michelin Green is a very good start.

Thanks, I definitely appreciate the advise. That sounds like a real good idea to go to the tour sites and see what they hit up and then plan our itinerary around that. I'll look into the Michelin book as well.

Thanks!

In addition, there is a book published in England specifically related to D-Day/WW II sites in France. I can'tput my hand on my copy at moment (I will look). If interested browse Scholars bookshelf.com.
