D-Day beaches - Normandie
 

We will be in LeHavre for one day in late June on a cruise stop and would like to visit the D-Day beaches and cemetery(s) if it feasable time wise. Thanks for any info.

We pulled into LeHavre on a cruise, and the couple we were traveling with took the ship's tour of the D-Day beaches. It was a pretty intense, all-day tour.

It's tough to do it on your own, but it could be done if you are adventurous. Get a map, do your homework, rent a car, lots to see, lots to do without a tour guide. Pick & chose. Check to see with the ship's tour itinerary is. Maybe you would want to follow it or use it as a guide.

As an alternative, we rented a car and drove North to Fecamp and visited the monks monestary where they made the B&B, then headed to Etretat, a seashore resort for lunch, toured the town, then drive to Honfleur for the rest of the day. ((b))

I'd definitely try to do the tour - use the ship's excursion group if possible. You'll be there on the 60th anniversary of D-Day so there will be tons of special things to see as well as the regular things. I'll warn you, we spent 5 days in Bayeux, toured the beaches, pointe du hoc, batteries, cemetaries, harbors, museums, mont st michel, tapestry,etc and still did not see it all...and 2 days were with a tour of the beaches. At least a tour will keep you focused and moving along. It was something we'll never forget. You'll also need to determine if you want to see the US invasion areas (Utah and Omaha) or UK/Canada (Sword, Juno and Gold). The latter will be closer to your port of call.
