Debbie--
Unless you have an unlimited number of days to visit, you almost can't take too many days to see the entire Czech Republic. I'd recommend close to a week to begin to gain a familiarity with all the parts of Prague, and another week or two for the rest of the villages and towns that will interest you. Everyone has favorites, and you will find many recommended on this forum; mine outside Prague are Cesky Krumlov, Ceske Budejovice, Plzen, Konopiste, Tabor, Kutna Hora, Olomuoc, and Hradec Kralove. If you were to visit all these places, you might need the two more weeks; a brush by most of them, if you rent a car, can be made in a week.

Don't forget Telc and Terezin.

As an FYI, there are over 40 museums and galleries in Prague. I was in Prague in November for 9 days, and only spent 2 full days outside of Prague sightseeing. I didn't even make a dent in Prague.

If you want to get a full flavor of the country, I would advise 3-4 weeks, including 1 week in Prague.
