Advice for Christmas Markets
Hi all,
We're planning on visiting Salzburg, Innsbruck, Hall in Tirol, Seefeld plus Brixen and Sterzing in Italy (near Innsbruck). Anyone have any insights or advice for visiting the Christmas markets in these areas? We've been to both a number of times, but never for the Christmas markets. Thanks in advance.

What kind of insight are you looking for?
I have been to Salzburg and a number of other locations in Germany and Austria over the course of several Advent season trips. We leave next week for 16 days in Germany and Austria and will visit Innsbruck and the Dolomites this trip.
The markets are fun and at their best at night IMO. December 6th is a special day and ofter there are special events planned. It was fabulous in Salzburg and this year we plan to be in Igls for the festivities.

Paul, we just returned from a visit to Germany and Austria. We stayed in one of our favorite places, St. Gilgen on Wolfgangsee. The owner of the Schernthaner Hotel, Frau Eisl, talked to us about the wonderful Advent celebration that they have on Wolfgangsee. Three towns on the lake (St. Wolfgang, Strobl and St. Gilgen) take part.
She said that every building in St. Gilgen is decorated for the holidays. It looks and sounds wonderful. We decided that we would have to go back one day in December.
Since you will be in Salzburg, you may want to look at this website:

We had a great trip, Paul. Revisited many of our favorite places. Probably won't do a trip report though since we didn't cover any new territory. But David will be posting some really fabulous photos as soon as he finishes organizing them.

Last year, we really enjoyed the Christmas Market at Helbrunn Palace, just outside Salzburg. Four of us took a cab there and it wasn't too expensive, but I believe you can get there using public transportation as well.
