great report
brings back a lot of memories
i disagree with the poster who recommends taking a tour though
i loathe them
truly
they truss you up and stick you in one place for too long and in some places you feel that if you tarry but for one second and snap a photo then youre in trouble with the 'umbrella' person..aka the tourguide
sometimes the guide has a thick accent
sometimes youre not within hearing range
but most of all its the time limitations placed 'ill give you fifteen minutes' and you have to choose between a toilet stop a coffee or a race round the sights again
no way
go the train to cesky
the walk to the town is nothing
pleasant and easy and all part of the journey

"airside" means you're staying within the secured section of the airport. So, if you are transiting at Heathrow (meaning, connecting from one flight to another without officially entering UK soil), you will stay "airside". Therefore, you won't encounter immigration or customs officials; you only will go through security.
"landside" means the unsecured parts of the airport where anyone, with or without a BP, can go (ie, check-in area, arrivals hall etc).
Again, when you're transiting at Heathrow, if you follow "Flight Connections" for the correct terminal, you will automatically be directed to the bus. It's pretty much idiot-proof. If you find yourselves at a train, you've gone very, very wrong.

Tom, thanks again for all your information and the link to your delightful website. I will be at CK on Friday, 28 August, for most of the day. There is a 90 minute walking tour of the Old Town at 10:30 that's run by the tourist office and costs 225 CZK. The 7:00 public bus from Prague should put us in by 10:00, then we can see the castle, riverfront and stroll around until late on our own, last bus returns 19:00. Having been in Prague before, the thought of driving there scares the bejeezus out of me - but it would be cheap and fast transportation (if one lived). Kathleen
