Czech Customs

Is the Czech Republic now part of the EU? Do you have to go through customs when you travel from Amsterdam to Prague?
Thanks,
DJL

Czech Republic won't be a member of the EU until next May. If you went into town in Amstersdam and stayed there, you would have to go through customs in CZ.

Yes, you will have to go through customs and immigration, and you will still have to go through immigration (passport control) even after the Czech Republic joins the EU early 2004. The new countries are not expected to join the Schengen common immigration zone until several years later.

A better question might be how you plan to travel in and out of the Czech Republic. I can tell you from experience that having done so by RAIL many times, the Immigration check was pretty easy and nobody asked anything about importing or exporting goods, etc. A look at the passport and that was about it.
By air or by road it may be an entirely different story.

By car, we were asked for our passports, they were examined, then handed back - no stamps, nothing. Very easy.

May of this year, 2003.

Odd though it might sound, goods but not people will be able to move freely between Czech and Schengen from next May.

So you'll go through immigration (probably consisting of waving your passport cover) but not customs.

I'm taking my first trip abroad and am going to Prague through Amsterdam, if I carry on will I have to go through security and customs? Thanks!

The Czech Republic is not a member of Schengen, therefore if connecting through Amsterdam you go through immigration at Prague. You will pass through security checks in Amsterdam

Hi,
Just wondering do we need visa to get into prague for malaysian and indonesian passport holders. And what are visa do we need if we are travelling from london

flanneruk Jun 13th, 2007 08:12 AM

You MUST all check this with the relevant embassy and High Commission in your country of residence, but as a general rule:

- Malaysians don't need visas for up to 90 days in either the UK or Czech

- Indonesians DO need a visa (a separate one from each embassy) to enter either country. They generally DON'T need a visa to transit Britain en route to and from Czech, provided they've got a Czech visa AND are in Britain for no more than 24 hours AND have onward tickets out of Britain For a stay over 24 hours, they must get a UK visa before leaving home.
