Czech Breweries

Anyone visit the breweries in the Czech Republic?
I'd be interested in your insights and comments!
Best places or favorites? Good places to stay or eat nearby? Thanks!

A city I visit about 3 times every year is Ceske Budejovice, which is the home of Budìjovický Budvar, the original and true Budweiser (German name) beer.

Check out the brewery web site:

I always stay at the Hotel Bohemia, which is centrally located and very moderate in price. The hotel has a good grill restaurant, but my absolute favorite restaurant is Ameno ( The owner/chef (Jiri) worked several years in Germany and has a top-notch restaurant in Ameno. The menu is varied, but specializes in excellent Italian dishes. It is also located in the center of Ceske Budejovice, about two blocks from the Hotel Bohemia. The staff speaks German and English. I always eat here twice or even three times during each 5-6 night stay in Ceske Budejovice.

If you want a 5-star hotel, then consider the Zvon or Maly Pivovar.
