Cycling-Bordeaux as base or village to village

We are trying to figure out whether to stay in Bordeaux for 4-5 days and cycle out of the city on out and back routes or just start in Bordeaux (where we'll rent cycles) and head out for 5 days returning to Bordeaux. Would love information from anyone with experience about this. Best to all!

I don't cycle, but I'm often in and around Bordeaux, and I cannot imagine cycling in and out of the city every day, or even once. Besides the traffic in and around the city, there are hardly any routes to "head out" of the city that are even remotely attractive. Why do you have to rent the cycles in the city? There are trains and buses to all kinds of smaller places where you could pick up and drop off a bike.

I didn't even like driving a car out of Bordeaux. It is a big city. Roughly 750,000 people live in the conurbation, 275,000 in the city itself.

I'd stay in little places and trip around rather than hanging out in Brodeaux. Both minor roads and real bike paths exist in the area. These links might help (base on real holidays)

I agree that getting in and out of Bordeaux every day would be hellish - once was enough for us.
