Hotels in Toulouse & Montpellier

It appears we'll be spending 4 days in Toulouse with 2 day trips and 2 days in Montpellier with no day trips.

Also, we'll be arriving and departing from each by train.

So while we'd like to be where the tourist action is located, we'd also like to be reasonably close to the train station.

Hotel recommendation in Toulouse and Montpellier would be appreciated.

We'd like to keep the price under 200E and preferably closer or under 150E.

Thanks in advance.

We loved our stay at Hotel de L'Opera in Toulouse right on Capitole Square.

We could walk to so many restaurants, shops, sites. We could have easliy spent more than 2 nights there.
If you click on my name & scroll down to my trip reports you'll see all the details on Toulouse.

We took a cab to the train station and it was quite easy.

Hotel le President is close to the train station and about 10-15 min walk to the center of Toulouse. We stayed there once.

The Mermoz is in about the same location as le President, but a little more "upscale". We've stayed here twice.

The Hotel Victor Hugo isn't anything special, but is very well located and met my needs:

I took a quick look at Hotel de l'Opera.

Am I reading correctly that full payment is due at the time of booking and there are no changes permitted or cancelations?

I''m going to use points for my stays in those cities, so I will be staying at the Crowne Plaza in Toulouse and the Courtyard in Montpellier.

The Mercure / Ibis in Montpellier is very convenient and comfortable. It's a short walk to the tram that connects to the main train station, and also for most of the central city area.
We stayed in the Ibis - not bad as long as you don't mind bathroom / toilet with frosted glass walls; another time around I'd prefer the Mercure. They are back-to-back on the same site.

Two years ago we spent a few hours in Montpellier on a day trip from Avignon.

I was under the impression that the historic / tourist area is on the Comedie side of the train station.

Now I'm finding that more of the major hotel chains appear to be in the Antigone area.

Did I miss something or is Antigone more of a business area with business hotels?

In Toulouse we stayed at the Ibis right across from the station. It was well under 100 euro, the room was larger than other Ibis rooms we've stayed in, the bed was great and the bathroom was nice. A typical basic Ibis. I'd stay there again.

We stayed at the Hotel Albert Premier twice before we moved to near Toulouse. Great location and I think within budget. It's just off the Place Capitole and two stops by metro to the train station.

I've just spent a little while looking at Ibis and Mercure hotels in Montpellier.

There seem to be several all in the same Antigone area.

I wonder if anybody has stayed at or seen up close the Ibis Comedie? This hotel appears to be a few minutes closer to Place de la Comedie.

Then about another 5 minutes in the direction of Antigone there are what appears to be an Ibis and Mercure very close to each other.

When we were there we didn't go in the direction of Antigone.

Any comments? Thanks.

Several years ago, we stayed at what was then called New Hotel du Midi in Montpellier. We were in a new room and it was very nice. We ate breakfast on the "Egg" as it was extra at the hotel.

It is a stone's throw from the Opera House but a taxi was able to drop us off/pick up. 10 minute walk from station but 5 at most to tram.
