Currently in Munich need some advice...
 

I am currently in Munich. We were planning a walk around the city center and bike tour tomorrow but it has been raining for days and more rain predicted. Can anyone help me with a good plan for tomorrow with as little of outside time as possible? Is a bus tour a good idea? I did not reasearch a good "plan B" !

Also, day after tomorrow we are going to visit Dachau late in the afternoon. We will then have several evening hours (5:00 pm-?) before heading to the airport. Any suggestions on the best way to spend these last hours in Germany? We love small towns and good casual food. Would there be a desination like this between Dachau and airport?

Have you had your fill of the Deutsches Museum? I could spend days and days there. . .

Last time we were in Münich was August 2002 when they were having lots of rain and what was named a "100 year flood" in the surrounding low areas. The Isar River was raging and the level was nearly up to the bottom of the bridge that crosses over to the museum.

Yes, Deutsches Museum sounds good to me. Maybe also try the Völkerkundemuseum, it's not far from there. I hate this weather, it was o.k this morning, even went outside without and umbrella, but this constant rain now is getting on my nerves. At least it's somewhat preheated.
I'd forget about the bike tour.

Should you go to Deutsches Museum, would you check and post the water level of the river. The last time they were flooding villages in the upperland because the Sylvenstein reservoir was full. To protect the Munich underground trains and stations, peoples houses were set under water. It was a stupid mistake, instead of emptying it right when the rainfall started, they waited until it was too late.
People sued but without success.

When you're on the bridge, where you turn right towards the Museum on the other side there is a public bathhouse from the biedermeier area. (Müllersches Volksbad, beautiful inside), if the water has reached that level, it's going to be difficult.

Anyway, for cheap coffee and a snack machine, and a place to sit, enter the library of the Museum, it is opposite the entrance. No one single tourist dares going in there. A good place to relax after/before you visit the Museum.

Logos---if the water level in the Isar reaches the bridge, won't that be a problem? I know it is strongly built, but it could be damaged by water pounding aginst it and over it, nicht wahr?

I hope the rain lets up soon.

The ideas of of the Deutsche and the Voelkerkunde Museum are good. Te latter has an interesting exhibit of creches. Also, take the train to Salzburg, equipped with a good umbrella. It may not even rain there (or it may rain even more so). But everything is very compact in Salzburg and you can poke around, while - occasionally - escaping into a cafe.

Up to 5 of you can ride on the same EUR28 Bayernkarte (Bavarian Ticket). For details, check the "Search" box on this forum. The trip takes about 2 hours and goes through some nice countryside scenery, some close to the train.

We spent a cold, rainy day at the BMW showroom/museum and taking a tour of the plant. An interesting alternative to museums.

enzian, the last time it has (almost) reached the bridge it wasn't a problem. :-) Traffic was as usual. The real problem, they said was if the water would flood the subway and S-Bahn stations. I think they've learned from that incident, I mean the Sylvenstein reservoir was built to prevent someting like that from ever happening.
