Current weather
I'm leaving soon for two weeks in Croatia. What can we expect for weather? Will it be warm enough to enjoy the beaches? Thanks! Would love to hear from anyone who is there now or just returned.

Weatherbase is a good site for historical averages, and its probably as good as any for predicting what you will have when you get to Croatia. There are many others that provide actual forecasts, which you can check just before you leave. One is http://tinyurl.com/kwypp (Weather Channel), which provides current conditions as well as three and ten day forecasts. Treat the ten day forecast with a grain of salt, though - anything beyond five days is pure speculation. A few other websites providing forecasts are:http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/, http://www.qwikcast.com/, and http://www.wunderground.com/.
Compare the forecasts on these websites, and sometimes they will be wildly different. Late September is a pretty good time to visit that part of the world, so you should be okay. |
the weather in croatia is terrible right now. rainy
|
Suggestion: check Croatia weather the day you leave. The next day Cratia weather will probably be the same! Try this system at home. Write down your weather today, check conditions tomorrow against your observation.

past four days have been over cast, periods of light to heavy rain (no, the sun doesnt always shine in Croatia). Bring a couple good books - you can always retreat to a cafe or restaurant and wile away the day.

www.wunderground.com has multiyear history for various locations in each country so you can get a feel for typical weather at a location. It is a useful site.

October weather is often very nice. I have swam in the Adriatic in the south (Hvar) in mid October, as well as early October in Istria. Water temps will be warmer if you will be in the Southern part of the country, of course. This week is rainy, although today I am able to wear sleeveless in Zagreb, so the temps are still mild, despite the clouds. You will need water shoes for the rocky coastline if you want to enjoy the "beaches", sand is rare. I recommend October as one of the best times to visit Croatia, have a great trip.

bad weather has cleared (finally) - locals think weather will stabelize for awhile. Podgora is beautifully situated with not much to do but sit in a beach chair and be lulled to sleep by the surf, wake up and waddle(too much gelato) up to the hotel restaurant and have grilled fish.
