Current prices for gondola rides in Venice

Last time we were in Venice in 2006 I believe we paid around $80 for 4 adults to take a gondola ride mid morning. At the time this was quite a drop from the price that was quoted before the haggling began so to us so it seemed to be a decent deal.

We'll be back in Venice in 2 weeks and will be bringing our children this time. So our group will be two families with 2 adults and 2 children each. What is an average price we should expect to pay for a gondola ride for 2 adults/2 kids if we did it during the day (cheaper) or in the evening (assuming more expensive). We're just fine tuning our budget a bit and want to put $$$ on some of the things we know we are going to do.

Seconding Peter's figure. As I'm sure you're aware, there are official pricing guidelines for gondola rides, however these are rarely adhered to and unless you speak excellent Italian and wand to haggle, you're likely to pay around Euro 80 per gondola. The ride *should* last around 45mins, so agree on all of this before the ride. If you feel you are going to be treated unfairly, then walk away, not agressively, just go to another gondoliere and tell them you want a better offer than the one you were just given up the road. This is, of course, a lot of bother and trapsing around, so if you go in prepared you should be fine. I've always had fun with the gondolieri, have never accepted their first price, but again it depends on the time of year and how busy it's been. Sometimes even THEY can't be bothered...or it's caffe correto time!

This price is for a daytime ride. Evening/night will incur a higher price, at least Euro100-120. And if there's singing involved, well...!

Was just there 80 euro per 30 minutes.

Also there are Traghetti big gondolas also called barchette (small boats). You can use a traghetto to cross the Grand Canal at various points. A ride costs just €0.50 . The catch is that passengers have to stand up during the journey but a cheaper way to do it.

eurocheapo.com Venezia great city guide

with other budget tips.

Happy Travels,
