current price of gas in France?
 

What is the price of gas in France now? I think I saw on a thread where someone said it's around $9 per gallon????? Is that true?

According to the AA it's running around €1.32 per litre.

Prices have risen a bit since then. You see € 1.35-1.40 per litre.
Which is appr. $7.96 - $8.25.
Gas stations of shopping centers are usually on the cheaper edge.

I laughed when I saw a story today about Maui having the highest gasoline prices in the USA, at just over $4/gallon. Most other nationals would be very envious of €0.68/litre.

Wow.

Remember...only part of the high price is due to the European policy of high tax on petrol to discourage wasteful consumption.

The rest of the seemingly sky-high price in dollars, is due to the terrible weakness of the greenback itself...(due to flakey economic policy, a costly war or two, a huge and growing deficit, and energy waste due to oversize guzzlers...)

To tell you the truth, I don't mind spending more than the US per gallon, as the tax revenues from petrol are spent toward services and universal health care, and you don't see a lot of Hummvees swanning around here.

I just got back from Barcelona and southern France. Gas was about 1.55/litre in France and 1.40/litre in Spain. I rented a car from Sixt who offered a tank full of gas for just under 40 euro. At current prices that was a decent price plus it saved me from having to stop for gas near the Barcelona airport.

I rented a compact car a couple weeks ago in France. Filling the tank about 3/4 full (I never let it get below 1/4 of a tank in case I got lost.) cost almost 50 euros.

Returning to California, the gas prices here don't seem so bad any more.

Today's LA Times indicates that it is $9.43 in Paris.

Price of gas in europe has always been at least twice what it is in the US - due to most government's taxation policies to reduce gas usage and support of public transit.

We filled our diesel Alfa Romeo 159 in Italy a few weeks ago and it cost us 92 euros---do the math!! Ouch!

Quesaisje...I don't know how Maui could be said to have the highest gas prices at just over $4.00 when we here in L.A. have been paying, for regular unleaded, $4.59 which is the low-price unless one goes to Arco. The more-seen price is in the $4.60-$4.70 range for regular unleaded. And we have been paying these prices for MANY weeks.
My station, Chevron, has just LOWERED its prices again. This is the second lowering in less than two weeks. Now, regular unleaded is $4.55 there. About two and a half to three weeks ago it was in the over $4.60-something range.
Weekend before last, I was on family business, in a southern state, here in the U.S. and I paid $3.86 for the same gas that I was paying $4.59 for here in L.A.
And as far as Europe goes, gas has always been higher there than here in the U.S., but so have taxes on things there been higher than taxes on things here in the U.S. I lived in Denmark for 20-plus years of summers where things are ridiculously taxed. So, who knows how much is the actual gas cost and how much is piled on taxes. Happy Travels!

Yeah, but with the more fuel-efficient cars in Europe, I'll bet the cost ends up about the same (going a distance in kilometers equal to that in miles in the U.S.).

I doubt it that the cost is the same even with their fuel efficient cars.

We have a lot of hybrids here in L.A. although the prices of them can be ridiculous. A friend of a friend went out to buy a new car last month and just figured she'd buy a hybrid....well....first of all there's a long waiting list...so who knows when she would have gotten one and second, dealers have marked them up $5,000. So, she bought a compact,non-hybrid car.

There have been lots of small, economy cars here in L.A. and for many decades. I remember well, when I first started driving in 1970 or 1971 and there were a lot of folks driving VW bugs and other small cars. A friend's father was driving his 1950-something bug to work everyday...and this was from the 60s through the 80s. It had the oval window in the back.
I also remember that when I started driving ,gas was 28 cents a gallon at Mobil. I used to fill up my VW bug for around $2.50.
I rememmber VERY well, people, from other states, who would come here and poke fun at us because we drove so many small, foreign, compact economy cars. So, it's nothing new here to drive small cars. HAppy Travels!

All I can say is I am glad the Dollar is low against the Euro - it is helping to keep the price down here believe it or not. As I said in another post petrol is nearly $10 a US gallon here in Holland, and that is at a cheap petrol station.

i hate to think what will happen when the dollar regains (when?) its reputable level... as far as affecting gas prices in europe go.

now THAT will be bad news for us here.
