Current and upcoming weather in the Dordogne

So, I've been looking at the 10 day forecast and it basically says a high of around 70 degrees with a 60% chance of precipitation, into next week. I know that doesn't mean rain all day, but I thought it would be nicer in June. Is this to be expected? I'm wondering about the clothes I was planning to bring. (And I also realize that longterm forecasts can be notoriously wrong).

Well, who can say, really? But the first June I spent in the Dordogne it rained for 29 days straight, not all day every day, but almost a full month of rain nonetheless. We ended up just going about doing what we wanted to: canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, swimming, driving on the back roads - but in the rain.

I'd certainly be prepared for wet spells.

Oh, StCirq, that did NOT make me feel better! Think I'll hunt up a little more rain gear.

Can someone explain to me exactly what "rain gear" is? I take an umbrella and waterproofed walking shoes.

What else is there? (I keep picturing the Gortons fisherman.)

"Rain Gear" = a really good book or two.

The weather in Europe this spring has been pretty dire...very wet and grey. Here in London it's much cooler than normal! I would be prepared for anything, bring umbrellas, waterproof jacket, and something to keep warm in case it's cool. Layers are definitely a good idea. Who knows, it could all clear up and be beautiful as well...fingers crossed for you!!

We were there in mid March and had glorious weather. We are returning the last week in June and hope for the same. Five years ago we did the same double trips in March & June. I froze in June expecting the weather to be warm. Thanks for reminding me about that.

Rain gear for me means a jacket I hadn't thought of bringing and a different pair of shoes. Oh, and of course an umbrella and the rain hat I bought in Switzerland last year (where it rained the first 5 days of the trip).

I'm also planning for cooler weather, mostly by taking layers.

Kevin, I like your idea! Rain is one thing, but if it's raining heavily all day, an indulgent day of reading and knitting wouldn't be such a bad thing.

I have cousins that have been in various places in Europe over the last 3 weeks and most of the pictures I've seen have shown cloudy skies and people wearing jackets.

StCirq, 29 days of rain. That would give me pause for return visits!

Well, gomiki, I have a house there. Return visits were always on the table, despite the weather.
