Currency for Austrian Travel
What currency is best to carry in Austria?
For traveler chech purchase U.S.Dollers, German Marks or Swiss Francs? Thanks |
We were in Austria last Spring and found that Travelers Cheques in DM were very easily accepted everywhere.

John, Whenever I have ever gone to Austria I take
travelers checks in US dollars. I never had a problem with them. Try to get them fee free from a credit union or an auto club. You don't have to worry about converting any unused checks back into dollars. enjoy !! |
Hi John, when we were in Austria last November, we took travellers cheques and never used them. Everywhere we went it was so easy to just draw Austrian Schillings from the ATM's using our Visa or Mastercard. Even the tiniest little village would have them. Peg.

In my three years of running tours to there I have found: travelers checks in US dollars, exchange money at airport, banks or American Express offices, never in hotels, ATM machines are not as frequent as here. But now you can use credit cards and that way you do not have to pay a fee for changing money. sms

I wouldn't worry too much about it. There are ATM machines everywhere! We were in Bregenz in August, and there was an ATM on every street corner.
