Currency Exchange in NYC
I am in NYC and need to find a place for currency exchange from US Dollars to Iceland Krona.
Any ideas how to find a place? Thanks, Meredith |
Hi,
How about your departure airport? |
There are AMEX branches that do currency exchange. See travel.americanexpress.com/travel/personal/resources/tso/topslistcity.asp?cwrap=us&area=United+States+o f+America&country=USA&state=NY&city=Ne w+York

Hi
I responded to your other posting with the same subject I'll bring it up to the top if I can find it |
Any major bank in Manhattan such as Citi which has an "international" department would be able to excahnge MAJOR currencies. There is no guarantee that you'll be able to get Iceland currency...might have a better chance at the airport..but that's no guarantee, either. I'd call the bank first and for that matter Amex, too, before going that route. Recently I tried to exchange a few dollars for some Czech Crowns at Dulles prior to departure..forget it! I would think JFK would offer more options if the banks and Amex show out.

Call the New York office of Ruesch International at 212-977-2700. If they can't do it, they'll know who can.

From my experiences, I've found that Chase has a better foreign currency service than others.
However, a friend both transited through Iceland and visited for a few days and it was real easy to exchange your money on arrival - just use the ATM machine or the exchange window, if you must. REY is a very civilized airport with all services and is known as "a quiet airport" - meaning, no announcements are made. It's your responsibility to check the departure/arrival boards. |
I agree with Sandi. Just get off the plane and get krona in the nearest ATM machine. My ATM debit card worked everywhere. It appeared to me that the exchange rate and fees totalled less than using your credit card or going to a currency ecxhange.
