so I got busy and didn't end up getting foreign currency through my bank. I'm now at Logan airport and the currency exchange rate here is pretty bad. What's the cheapest way for me to get around 100 dollars exchanges? Am I better off waiting till I get across the Atlantic?

Yes. After arrival, an ATM using your bank debit card will get you the best rate. Be sure you've notified your bank of your travel dates and countries to be visited.

If you must exchange $ the rate is going to be awful anywhere. And if you have to walk off the plane with money the airport cambio is really the only way.

What gives the best rates in either using a credit card or pulling cash from your checking account at an ATM after you arrive.

The exchange rate at the airport is about the same as you would have gotten from your bank so no big deal.

If you just have $100 you want to change, it matters not one little bit if you do it at Logan or at LHR when you land . . .

I do like janis says - I simply don't change anything, I always use ATM's.

I'm as cheap as the next person (cheaper, according to my SO), but when you think in terms of $100, how much of a difference is there between a "good" exchange rate and a "bad" one? Four dollars, maybe?

Exchange the money and break even by skipping the Starbucks latte.

The difference for $100-worth is minimal. Use an ATM. Change the cash. Whatever is easier and most convenient.

If you like paying either a commission or getting a poor exchange rate for the supposed "convenience" of using one of those currency exchange booths vs. an ATM, go ahead.
